More powerful typhoons expected to hit RP in ’08
More powerful typhoons are expected to hit the country this year, an official of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
PAGASA director Prisco Nilo said the prevailing La Niña phenomenon in the country is "favorable" to typhoon development.
La Niña, a weather phenomenon that brings above normal rainfall, causes the warming of sea surface temperature in the Pacific Ocean where tropical cyclones usually develop, Nilo said.
